WHAT WE DO
Honoring traditions and addressing contemporary community needs
YOUTH INTERNSHIPS
The Kake Tribal Heritage Foundation offers youth internships aimed at empowering young members of our community by providing hands-on experience and mentorship. These internships allow youth to engage directly with Tlingit traditions, history, and practices, fostering a deep connection to their heritage. Interns participate in various projects, including community events, educational programs, and cultural workshops, gaining valuable skills and knowledge that prepare them to become future leaders and custodians of our cultural legacy.
FOOD SECURITY
The Kake Tribal Heritage Foundation is dedicated to enhancing food security within our community by promoting sustainable practices and traditional knowledge. We work to ensure access to nutritious, locally-sourced foods through initiatives that include community gardens, Hydroponics, subsistence fishing, and harvesting programs. By integrating Tlingit food traditions with modern sustainability efforts, we aim to create a resilient food system that supports the health and well-being of our people. Our programs also provide educational opportunities, teaching community members and youth about sustainable food practices and the importance of preserving our natural resources for future generations.
CULTURAL TOURISM
The Kake Tribal Heritage Foundation plays a pivotal role in promoting cultural tourism by preserving and sharing the rich heritage of the Tlingit people. Through guided tours, cultural demonstrations, and educational programs, the foundation offers visitors an immersive experience in traditional Tlingit practices, arts, and stories. The foundation's efforts not only provide economic benefits to the community but also foster a deeper understanding and appreciation of Tlingit culture. By showcasing the intricate craftsmanship, vibrant history, and profound spirituality of the Tlingit people, the Kake Tribal Heritage Foundation ensures that Tlingit culture continues to thrive and inspire future generations.
KAKE DOG SALMON FEST
The Kake Dog Salmon Festival has long been a cherished gathering for our community, providing a time for members to come together, share stories, and celebrate our traditions. As the Kake Tribal Heritage Foundation embarks on an exciting rebranding journey, transforming the festival into a Cultural Heritage Festival, we invite partners to join us in this meaningful endeavor.
This new vision will showcase the richness of Tlingit culture, including traditional foods, art, music, and storytelling. By collaborating with local organizations, artists, and community members, we aim to create a vibrant event that honors our heritage and strengthens our community ties. Together, we can celebrate our history, educate future generations, and foster a deeper appreciation for the culture that binds us. We look forward to working with partners who share our commitment to preserving and promoting our Tlingit heritage.
KAKE TRIBAL HERITAGE CENTER
The Kake Tribal Heritage Foundation is diligently working to secure funding for the establishment of the Kake Tribal Heritage Center in Kake, Alaska. This envisioned center aims to serve as a beacon of Tlingit culture, providing a dedicated space for the preservation, celebration, and education of the tribe's rich traditions and history. Through grants, community fundraising efforts, and strategic partnerships, the foundation seeks to create a multifaceted facility that will host cultural events, and offer educational programs. The Kake Tribal Heritage Center will not only be a hub for cultural tourism but also a vital resource for the local community, fostering a deeper connection to heritage and ensuring a vital education space for Tlingit knowledge and practices to be shared future generations.
